The Tokyo Emerging Managers Program (Tokyo EMP) promotes the allocation of early stage investments from institutional asset owners to Japan based emerging manager
Visual Alpha (VA) works with FinCity.Tokyo (FCT) to promote Japanese emerging managers to overseas and domestic asset owners through research, interviews, matching events, and conferences.
Eligible Emerging Managers
We source outstanding new managers from the official registration lists, industry network and 3rd party databases that fit the following criteria:

- Independent Investment Manager
- Established within 6 years (Private Asset within 10 years)
Investment Strategy
- Innovative & Unique
- Performance-winning
- Institutional ready
Japan Emerging Manager Database
Managers participating in the Tokyo Emerging Manager Program self-update their details in our Emerging Manager Database. The database includes detailed information such as investment strategy, team background, performance track record, and pitch materials.

Asset Allocator Events
Emerging Managers and Asset Allocators Matching Event
This event provides opportunities for asset allocators around the world to learn more about a select group of emerging managers from Japan. It will be organized on a bi-annual basis by VA and FCT team.
Selection
The AO can view the details of all EMs joined Tokyo EMP and choose interested EMs for online interviews.
Interview
All selected EMs will present to the AO one by one during an online virtual event. Each EM will have about 20 minute

We will collect feedback and follow up for future improvement.
Global Asset Allocators Survey
Every year, we interview a wide range of institutional asset owners ("AOs") on their investment strategies for emerging managers ("EMs"). As of 2025, we've surveyed 36 global allocators with combined AUM exceeding USD 4.4 trillion. Participants include major pension funds, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, family offices and others. Tokyo Asset Management Forum
- Tokyo Asset Management Forum (TAMF) is a half-day conference that introduces emerging asset managers and provides information related to asset management business. Every year, a variety of both domestic and overseas emerging asset managers share the stage to present their investment approach. The forum also hosts expert speakers from government agencies, international asset owners, and Japanese asset owners to share their perspectives through lectures and panel discussions.
