Emerging Manager Program
The Emerging Managers Program (EMP) promotes the allocation of seed funding to emerging managers in the investment space principally across alternative assets.
FinCity.Tokyo has been actively cultivating newly established managers in Japan and promoting them to asset owners since the beginning of Tokyo's Global Financial City Initiative.
Visual Alpha works with FinCity.Tokyo to promote Japanese emerging managers to overseas and domestic asset owners through research, interviews, matching events, and an annual conference.

- Established within 5 years (private asset managers within 10 years)
- Have an innovative, unique, and performance-winning investment strategy
Here is a list of the Japan Emerging Managers (require password). Please note that the information on the page is self-updated by each EM.
Emerging Managers and Asset Owners Matching Event
The Emerging Managers and Asset Owners Matching Event provides opportunities for asset owners around the world to learn more about a select group of emerging managers from Japan. It will be organized on a quarterly basis by Visual Alpha and Fincity.Tokyo from Q4, 2023.
Global Asset Owners Survey
We interviewed a wide range of institutional asset owners (AOs) about their EM investment strategy. In 2022, close to 20 large (total AUM > US$5 trillion) overseas asset owners were surveyed, including pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, etc.
The interview results will be anonymously compiled into a report. Past reports can be found on Fincity.Tokyo’s EMP official website. For this year's AO survey questions, please refer to this list.
Tokyo Asset Management Forum
Tokyo Asset Management Forum (TAMF) is a half-day conference that introduces emerging asset managers and provides information related to asset management business. Every year, a variety of both domestic and overseas emerging asset managers share the stage to present their investment approach. The forum also hosts expert speakers from government agencies, international asset owners, and Japanese asset owners to share their perspectives through lectures and panel discussions.
The 2024 TAMF will be held on January 31, 2024 in Tokyo (online event available). Stay tuned!
